According to TURKSTAT in 2019, 80% of our country's red radish production was met from our city. In order for the geographical indication and name to officially belong to our region and to be transferred to future generations by preserving, to brand value of radish production, which has been identified with Kadirli for many years, at the meeting held on 25.01.2018 at the Kadirli Commodity Exchange, the Kadirli Radish Geographical Indication application process was initiated with the signing of a cooperation protocol between Osmaniye Food, Agriculture and Livestock Provincial Directorate (Osmaniye Directorate of Provincial Agriculture and Forestry), Eastern Mediterranean Development Agency (DOĞAKA) and Kadirli Commodity Exchange for Geographical Indication Registration of Kadirli Radish.
Analysis and studies of Kadirli Radish that shows it as local product of our region, the differences in the product caused by the cultivation of Kadirli Radish in our region and the reports generated as a result of the studies on the identification of the product with the region have been submitted with the application files to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. After the review process and finally after the objectionn suspension period Kadirli Radish was registered as the second geographically marked product of Osmaniye after "Peanut".
The Kadirli Radish geographical indication registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office with the Certificate of Origin Geographical Indication No.531 and has been registered to be protected from 01.06.2018, which was the the official application date.
Kadirli Radish Geographical Indication Registration Certificate, registered on September 4, 2020, was signed by the President of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office Prof. Dr. By Habip ASAN; It was presented to Osmaniye Deputy Mücahit DURMUŞOĞLU and Kadirli Commodity Exchange President Mehmet BALCILAR.
